Club Sections
Artists Group
Members at all stages of their artistic development meet each Wednesday morning. Once a month, the group is joined by a tutor to discuss a specific area of art. During the summer months, subject to the weather, the sessions take place outside.
Arts Appreciation Group
This is a very popular group that takes full advantage of the fine weather during the summer months to visit historic houses and art galleries. During the winter, the group meets most months for supper lectures with a speaker from the world of fine arts, including architecture.
Aviators’ Circle
Open to all Members who have an interest or have been involved with flying. The Circle gets together every month for an informal meeting and its Members enjoy quarterly lunches or dinners. The Circle also arranges visits to places of interest.
Billiards and Snooker
A socially active Section with Members attending organised sessions as they please. The Annual Tournaments are played over several months and are followed with keen interest. The Billiards and Snooker Room is available to use by all Members by booking through Reception.
Boat Owners Association
Members do not need to own a boat to participate in the many wide-ranging, social functions put on by this Section. This Association includes Members who moor their boats both at Phyllis Court and at other marinas.
Bridge Section
The Bridge Section plays Duplicate on Monday afternoons and Wednesday evenings and Rubber on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons. Monday evening is reserved for those who wish to improve their bidding and play. A number of competitions are held throughout the year, details of which can be found on the notice board.
Classical Music
The simple objective of the Classical Music Section is to increase members’ enjoyment of classical music through a programme of organised trips to concerts, recitals and festivals and celebrity lectures.
Classic Motoring
This is a group of people who all have an interest in older motor vehicles. They meet on a regular basis and enjoy video evenings and social functions, arranged throughout the year at which guest speakers are invited to talk. The group takes advantage of the warmer weather during the summer months organising trips.
Computer Section
The Computer Section promotes the understanding of, and involvement in, information technology and computers so that its Members can enjoy the benefits that they bring. Discussion, presentations and visits all play a key part in this Sections diary.
Croquet Section
Play begins in mid-April and continues until the autumn, weather permitting. This is a very active Section that plays Golf and Association Croquet, holding regular tournaments at all levels of play. The Section also hosts a variety of social events throughout the year.
Dance Section
For those who want to improve their Ballroom and Latin American dance then quickstep to the Dance Section. Tuition is available for beginners and improvers or, for the more experienced, it gives members the opportunity to dance on a regular basis. Informal supper dances are held during the year along with other social events.
Family History
The Section meets once a month and has an interest in family history research. It helps beginners get started and established researchers overcome difficulties. It has a small library, arranges visits and can help its Members surf the Internet in the pursuit of information from all over the world.
Golf Society
This popular Section holds society days at a variety of golf clubs and arranges the occasional weekend away. Social events take place at Phyllis Court Club throughout the year.
Ladies Luncheon Club
The group meets once a month for lunch, which is often followed by a talk or demonstration covering a variety of subjects. This is an ideal Section to join to meet other Members as there is random seating at every lunch.
Probus
Probus is open to all retired or semi retired Members. The group holds monthly meetings with interesting speakers on a wide range of subjects. Informal social events are arranged throughout the year.
PCC Singers
This group of Members promotes group singing within the Club to as high a standard as possible and entertains other groups as requested.
Rowing and River
Encouraging people to enjoy the River Thames is the aim of this group. The marine activity is enhanced by a social calendar involving regattas and other activities. Recreational boats are available for all Members’ use.
Scrabble Section
Some members of this Section play in County League matches but don’t be put off by the high standards that some of these members have reached! Players of all levels are welcomed by this enthusiastic group, which meets once a week.
Tennis Section
The Tennis Section uses the Clubs four, all-weather courts, two of which are floodlit, and its members meet on a regular basis for their own training and playing sessions.
Thames Dining Club
This Club arranges gourmet evening dinners of fine wines and food throughout the year for the Club´s gentlemen. The evenings often end with a guest speaker. Once a year the Club hosts a Ladies Gala Night.
Theatre Group
The Theatre Group enjoys monthly trips to London and the provinces to see productions covering all aspects of theatreland including opera and the ballet.
Wine Circle
A group dedicated to the enjoyment of the products of the noble grape. While largely hedonistic in intent, Members are offered the opportunity to expand their knowledge of the world’s wine, through talks, tutored tastings and visits.
