HR MANAGER APPOINTED

Phyllis Court is pleased to welcome Human Resources (HR) Manager Laureen McHaffie.

 Laureen joins Phyllis Court from Oxford University’s Ashmolean Museum of Art and Archaeology and the History of Science Museum where she was Head of HR, supporting a team of 350 people. She has over 15 years' HR experience and has previously worked for global brands such as the Walt Disney World Company (Walt Disney World, Florida and Disney Cruise Line, Florida) and Makro (part of the Booker Group). This new Senior Management role has been created to meet the increasing demand on HR with the opening of the Fitness Centre and the recent expansion in staff.

The role will provide a new strategic direction for HR to ensure that the workforce is competent, confident and highly motivated. Laureen is passionate about people and culture, and driven by quality and integrity. Prior to Laureen joining Phyllis Court Club, HR was managed by part-time Senior HR Officer, Diane Tinsey. Diane has worked at the Club for 11 years, with the last 10 being in HR. During this time Diane was responsible for ensuring all staff and managers were supported in every aspect of the employee lifecycle. The full-time HR Manager role will complement the Senior HR Officer role, whilst growing the capacity of the HR function.

Laureen, who is MCIPD accredited, is originally from Northern Ireland and now resides in Hermitage. In her spare time, she likes to “eat, read and drink wine.” She’s a self-confessed ‘bookworm’, enjoying everything from fiction to professional HR books, stating that she likes to develop her knowledge of the industry. She’s always had an interest in good food, and completed a degree in Hospitality, then later achieved a Master’s degree in HR.

Commenting on her appointment, Laureen said: “This role appealed to me as it allows me to combine my passions for both Hospitality and HR. I’m excited to join at such a significant time in the Club’s history and I’m looking forward to shaping the HR strategy to ensure we have a happy and motivated workforce who will provide an excellent service for Members.”
