UPCOMING TALKS

Tracking on the Tube: The Trade-Off Between Better Data and Digital Privacy
Did you know that when you step into a London Underground station, you could be being tracked? As you travel to your destination, Transport for London are using your phone to figure out where you are in the system. Why? In this talk, technology journalist James O'Malley will dig into exactly what TFL is trying to learn, and why we need to think carefully about the balance between collecting data and our privacy - and what this debate in London can teach us about plans for COVID-19 contact tracing.

James is a freelance writer who has written for The Spectator, New Statesman, the Independent, Techradar, Which? Computing and several other political journals and technology publications. He last spoke to us in January about The Surveillance Society and there was a packed house for that, so expect this talk to be equally popular.

To watch the talks, all you need is a computer, tablet or mobile phone with an internet connection. You don't need to register - login details are available via In Touch.
