Family History Society
Our purpose is to stimulate, encourage and support Members in researching their Family History.
At one time Genealogy was simply about finding the names of ancestors. But now it includes finding out how they lived. The Society is flourishing with about 160 members.
Talks: are held monthly and last about an hour. During Covid they have taken place on Zoom and this has enabled us to find good speakers who do not live within travelling distance of Henley. Some give advice on family history sources and others are on a variety of subjects attractive to people interested in family history. Soon they will be held in the Club giving an opportunity to meet other people researching their family history and to discuss ideas.
Help: Members with considerable experience are happy to help those who are starting to research and record their ancestors.
Books: The Society holds a good collection of books on family history which are available for members to borrow when the Club reopens fully.
Trips: have in the past been organised from time to time to the National Archives at Kew.
