BATTLE OF BRITAIN AIRCRAFT

Aviators Circle: Air Marshal (AM) Cliff Spink has flown Battle of Britain planes

For the majority of lockdown the skies have been very quiet, with the exception of the aircraft from the Battle of Britain Flight, a Spitfire and a Hurricane, that famously flew over Captain Tom’s home to commemorate his birthday!

The Aviators Circle recently – in fact just before the start of the ‘lockdown’ – had someone who has flown planes of the Battle of Britain Flight come and speak to them.

The speaker was Air Marshal (AM) Cliff Spink, who rose from Halton apprentice to Air Marshal, a most exceptional career, and his subject was flying WW11 Warbirds such as the Spitfire, Hurricane and even the Me 109, something which started when he was Station Commander at RAF Coningsby, home of the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

Sadly, as this was just before the start of the lockdown, many Members cancelled and did not attend the dinner. However the Aviators Circle hope to persuade AM Spink to repeat his talk later in the year. In the meantime, you may like to look at a cockpit video of AM Spink flying a Spitfire from the Flight.

The Aviators Circle at Phyllis Court has well over 100 members who attend regular functions (dinners, lunches and visits) with an aviation theme. Not all members are, or have been, aviators themselves but many members are those with just an interest in aviation.
