Monthly meetings for jazz enthusiasts
If you’re interested in jazz and would like to enjoy listening to internationally acclaimed artists, then this is the Group for you.
The Live Jazz group hold eight or nine live concerts each year on Sunday evenings plus a Thursday lunch in May in the Riverside Pavilion. In small groups or big bands, these feature the best of British jazz musicians, and also American stars like Scott Hamilton and Darius Brubeck. Recent performers have included the Bateman Brothers, Alan Barnes, Alec Dankworth, the Dime Notes, Elaine Delmar, and the Humphrey Lyttelton Tribute Band. The group aim for a balance of styles from Trad to Dixieland, Stride to Swing, Mainstream to Modern, often with a vocalist.
The Sunday concerts in the Ballroom start at 7.00pm and finish by 9.30pm. Sandwiches and drinks can be ordered from the bar. These are informal events with the audience seated at tables, café-style. All Members of the Club are eligible to attend. Booking opens 4 weeks before each event.
Group membership currently exceeds 300 people. It costs £10 p.a, and each Sunday concert is currently £13 for Live Jazz members and £19 for guests. To find out more about joining the group please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
