The Railway Club
Railway-related talks, trips, tours and lunches
The Railway Club provides a varied programme of events for those who have even a passing interest in railways and railway travel.
The highlights of the many activities organised by this club are the annual away breaks, previously to Chester, Liverpool, Snowdonia and the LLangollen Railway, demonstrating the broad appeal of the programmes.
The Railway Club’s day trips have featured lunch on the Severn Valley Railway, Christmas lunch on the Watercress Line, visits to private and miniature railways, visits to the London Festival of Model Railways and mainline steam hauled trips to Plymouth, Worcester and Ludlow.
Back at Phyllis Court, group members enjoy lunches and dinners with illustrated presentations. These have included:
- Rohan Vos talking about Rovos Rail, his own South African equivalent of the Orient Express
- Tales of rail travel in India, Burma and Switzerland
- The story of the Trans-Siberian Railway
- Closer to home, fascinating insights into the Crossrail Project and the history of Reading station.
Most important of all is the chance to spend time with friendly and like-minded people while having great fun.
