Our favourite apple crumble recipe and tutorial with Head Chef Gary! He will guide you though making this British classic. The sweet and wholesome cooked apples are perfectly complemented by the crunchy oat topping. You may serve it with cream, custard or ice cream, or enjoy it on its own. View the recipe below.
100g plain flour
100g demerara
100g salted butter
50g rolled oats
Teaspoon of cinnamon or nutmeg
4 apples
3-4 tablespoons of apple juice
1. Mix together flour, 75g butter (retaining 25g), sugar and oats until nicely combined.
2. Place on a tray with some baking parchment and spread out evenly.
3. Bake in the oven for 12-15 mins at 170 degrees until nicely brown and crunchy in texture.
4. Whilst the crumble is baking. Peel and core the apples. Cut into quarters.
5. Place in a saucepan with the apple juice, 25g of butter and a sprinkle of sugar.
6. Cook on a low heat until the apples are soft.
7. Once both the apples and crumble are prepared. Place in suitable oven proof serving dish.
8. Warm in the oven at 150 degrees for 15 mins until bubbling and golden brown.
