Ballroom Extension Approved
8 February 2021
Chris Hogan, Club Secretary is delighted to confirm that the planning application for a single-story glass extension to the Ballroom has now been approved by South Oxfordshire District Council (SODC).
Chris Hogan said ‘I am pleased to share the exciting news that SODC has granted approval for us to proceed with the extension to the Ballroom. It is a necessary and beneficial addition to the Club which will enable us to accommodate a slightly larger number of Members in the main restaurant whilst following social distancing restrictions. The next steps are to place an order with the supplier and complete the electrical installations and groundworks before the build can begin. We hope to open the extension before summer. I would like to thank the team who have worked tirelessly in preparing the planning application and achieving this outcome.'
As a result of Covid-19, the largest room in the Club, the Ballroom and Finlay Suite, has become the main restaurant. Phyllis Court foresee that restrictions such as social distancing and limited capacities will be in place throughout much of 2021 and the glass extension will be a valuable addition. The plans are for a small extension to the Ballroom terrace area outside the front of the main Clubhouse (river facing) to enable the Club to expand the dining facilities whilst following the current restrictions in place, and thereafter.
Such an extension to the Ballroom will not only enhance numbers able to dine but will also offer a useful additional space when the Club is able to put on large events again. The build will not impact Members use of the main terrace, lawn or any other room in the Clubhouse. Members will be kept up to date with the progress and we hope to open the extension later in the year.
The planning application was submitted in December 2020 and following extensive consultation and approval from several departments in the SODC, the application was thoroughly reviewed and approved.
