Launching the Desborough Marquee
26 March 2018
At Henley Royal Regatta 2018, Phyllis Court is pleased to offer Members and their guests the opportunity to book the new Desborough Marquee.
Tables of 6, 8 or 10 will be available in this luxury marquee which is open sided, but covered, to allow members and their guests to soak up the atmosphere, music and rowing and entertainment. The ticket includes a table for the day, nibbles on arrival, a three-course lunch and afternoon tea. Situated on the Lawn, the new Desborough Marquee is named after former rower and Phyllis Court Vice-President William Henry Grenfell, 1st Baron Desborough.
He was a British athlete, sportsman, public servant and politician. Grenfell rowed for Oxford in the Boat Race in both 1877 and 1878. He became President of the Oxford University Boat Club in 1879 and President of the Thames Conservancy Board from 1904 – 1937. In 1908, he was President of the British Olympic Association. The 1908 London Olympics saw oarsmen from eight countries (Belgium, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands and Norway) competing in a contest which took place over four days and Phyllis Court participated in the hospitality programme. Lord Desborough gave a speech at the games and following a triumphant week with Britain winning every event, Desborough became Vice-President of Phyllis Court Club.
The Desborough Marquee is sure to be a super way to impress friends and family at Regatta in 2018.
